Gabriel 'Grizzly' Williams WIP

Here's a step by step of a piece done for my homie for his b-day, as commissioned by his father.



He's a beast of a boxer, and since it's my favorite sport, I had to try my hand at it. He's also getting his masters in Architecture, so stop by his page and give him some feedback!

I had limited facial ref, so it couldn't be super dynamic, and that's not what was called for anyway, so here's him post destruction!



Step1- Just a simple layout, planning of the composition. This was tough because I wanted to go more dynamic, but I couldn't due to lack of ref. I couldn't ask him for pics, because that would ruin the suprise!

Step2- I start the rendering. I made his left shoulder look realy wonky, here so I end up changing that later.

Step3- I scan to see how it suits me and I decide that I'll go back to the drawing and add the black background with a 6b pencil.

Step4- The final! With the background black, it gives the characters more impact.

Thats the best setup I've used ever. Tho, I'm not a fan of vellum anymore. It's cool, but 111lb+ paper is my fav, thick ass paper is better than that board, it takes the graphite better and easier.
