The Kinetic Kartel- birth

I've been trying to figure out how to approach this project without a collaborator for the coloring duties. That's a tough load for one person who is trying to do an entire GN by himself. SO I figure, I'll render the backgrounds in pencil, and do color washes over them with limit palettes. I also figured out my layer order in photoshop that will allow the flats of the characters to reflect the mood of the scene. Maybe I'll do a tutorial one day, if you pay me (I'm just serious)....Nah but for real, I may do one. I want that same washed feel that production IG achieved with Blood: the Last Vampire. Maybe a lil more vibrant here and there, but that palette was pretty limited overall. I don't want to go Afro Samurai with it where the chracters are rendered in greyscale with colored backgrounds to fool you into thinking they are colored when they arent. I like color too much


So as a side note this background sucks major testes because i did it in like 5 mins. I was just laying in values so I could scan and test before page work today. I had no plan or anything and this was the result of that. I'll also have to determine what paper would be best suited for this style of stuff too. The smooth bristol this was drawn on is not something I use for shading anymore, but it's good for the line art style. The drawing paper with more tooth is good for shading and blending, but leaves my character lines a lil dirty looking, so there's my problem, I'll have to figure that one out. I wouldnt be suprised if I went back and forth of that one for a while, but we'll see how it goes.


Sorry for rambling but I'm pretty hype that I figured this out and I can't wait to implement the techniques on a drawing thats actually worthy of it. Cuz believe me this is straight ass.
